Book of Mormon | Alma 26 and Alma 36: Who is Stiff-Necked—the Nephites or the Lamanites?

Towards the end of their 14-year mission to the Lamanites, Ammon says:
Alma 26:23 Now do ye remember, my brethren, that we said unto our brethren in the land of Zarahemla, we go up to the land of Nephi, to preach unto our brethren, the Lamanites, and they laughed us to scorn?
24 For they said unto us: Do ye suppose that ye can bring the Lamanites to the knowledge of the truth? Do ye suppose that ye can convince the Lamanites of the incorrectness of the traditions of their fathers, as *stiffnecked a people as they are*; whose hearts delight in the shedding of blood; whose days have been spent in the grossest iniquity; whose ways have been the ways of a transgressor from the beginning? Now my brethren, ye remember that this was their language.
25 And moreover they did say: Let us take up arms against them, that we destroy them and their iniquity out of the land, lest they overrun us and destroy us.

Just a few years later, Alma tells his son Helaman:
Alma 37:9 Yea, I say unto you, were it not for these things that these records do contain, which are on these plates, *Ammon and his brethren could not have convinced so many thousands of the Lamanites of the incorrect tradition of their fathers*; yea, these records and their words brought them unto repentance; that is, they brought them to the knowledge of the Lord their God, and to rejoice in Jesus Christ their Redeemer.
10 And who knoweth but what they will be the means of bringing many thousands of them, yea, and also many thousands of *our stiffnecked brethren, the Nephites*, who are now hardening their hearts in sin and iniquities, to the knowledge of their Redeemer?

Well, what do you know? The Nephites who in about 92 BC judged the Lamanites as “stiffnecked” are, in about 73 BC stiffnecked!
