“Pearl of Great Price/ Book of Mormon | Moses 1:6–Moses Is a Type for Jehovah/ Jesus Christ”
(c)2018 grego
In the Pearl of Great Price, we have the calling of Moses:
Moses 1:6 And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth; but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me, for I know them all.
Moses 1:25 And calling upon the name of God, he beheld his glory again, for it was upon him; and he heard a voice, saying: Blessed art thou, Moses, for I, the Almighty, have chosen thee, and thou shalt be made stronger than many waters; for they shall obey thy command as if thou wert God.
26 And lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days; for thou shalt deliver my people from bondage, even Israel my chosen.
So what does that mean, especially Moses 1:6?
The law of Moses was full of signs, wonders, types, and shadows of Jesus Christ, that were to point the Israelites to Jesus Christ when he came. This is shown clearly in this verse:
Mosiah 3:15 And many signs, and wonders, and types, and shadows showed he unto them, concerning his coming; and also holy prophets spake unto them concerning his coming; and yet they hardened their hearts, and understood not that the law of Moses availeth nothing except it were through the atonement of his blood.
Here are others:
2 Nephi 11:4 Behold, my soul delighteth in proving unto my people the truth of the coming of Christ; for, for this end hath the law of Moses been given; and all things which have been given of God from the beginning of the world, unto man, are the typifying of him.
Jacob 4:5 Behold, they believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to him…
Jacob 7:7 And ye have led away much of this people that they pervert the right way of God, and keep not the law of Moses which is the right way; and convert the law of Moses into the worship of a being which ye say shall come many hundred years hence… (spoken by an anti-Christ)
Jarom 1:11 …teaching the law of Moses, and the intent for which it was given; persuading them to look forward unto the Messiah, and believe in him to come as though he already was…
Mosiah 16:14 Therefore, if ye teach the law of Moses, also teach that it is a shadow of those things which are to come—
15 Teach them that redemption cometh through Christ the Lord, who is the very Eternal Father. Amen.
Alma 25:15 Yea, and they did keep the law of Moses; for it was expedient that they should keep the law of Moses as yet, for it was not all fulfilled. But notwithstanding the law of Moses, they did look forward to the coming of Christ, considering that the law of Moses was a type of his coming, and believing that they must keep those outward performances until the time that he should be revealed unto them.
16 Now they did not suppose that salvation came by the law of Moses; but the law of Moses did serve to strengthen their faith in Christ…
Alma 34:13 Therefore, it is expedient that there should be a great and last sacrifice, and then shall there be, or it is expedient there should be, a stop to the shedding of blood; then shall the law of Moses be fulfilled; yea, it shall be all fulfilled, every jot and tittle, and none shall have passed away.
3 Nephi 9:17 And as many as have received me, to them have I given to become the sons of God; and even so will I to as many as shall believe on my name, for behold, by me redemption cometh, and in me is the law of Moses fulfilled.
God tells Moses that he has “a work for” him, and that Moses is “in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth”.
God chooses him, promises him that the waters will “obey thy command as if thou wert God”.
And then, that God is with him, “even unto the end of [his] days; for [he will] deliver [God’s] people from bondage, even Israel my chosen”.
Moses will deliver/ be a savior to Israel from physical and spiritual bondage; he will give them the law that God gives him (it is most likely this conversation is going on right before Moses gets the laws). Of all the things about the law that are to typify and point their souls to Jehovah/ Jesus Christ, the greatest is Moses. Moses is to be a type, a symbol, in the similitude of Jesus Christ, a savior full of grace and truth. He is to represent God to the Israelites.
