I’m going to primarily use Luke 22, so if there’s a verse without a book and chapter, then that’s where it’s at.

Jesus warns Peter Satan desires him, and He has prayed for him. Peter seems to basically say it’s not needed; Jesus prophesies he will deny Him three times that day.

31 ¶ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Jesus does not ask Peter, James, and John to pray for Him, but to pray that they will not enter into temptation (and be overcome).

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Peter actually was ready to go to prison and death for Jesus; but Jesus says no, it’s not time.

John 18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 ¶ And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

Perhaps that threw Peter off; he understands that Jesus will die, and Jesus wants him to survive. But still… Peter denies Jesus three times, the cock crows; and then the hardest part: Jesus turns and looks at him. Three times Jesus warned him to not enter into temptation, and that was the result of not having followed Jesus’ advice. Peter had failed; Satan had overcome him.

54 ¶ Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

But that’s not the ending! Jesus appears after his resurrection, and asks Peter if he loves him—three times. Maybe Peter was grieved, but he needed these three times to make up for those three denials.

John 21:15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Remember when Peter said he’d go to prison and die with Jesus, and how Jesus said no, you wouldn’t now? Well, he promises Peter one day he will, following Jesus.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

DC 128:20 says: And again, what do we hear? Glad tidings from Cumorah! Moroni, an angel from heaven, declaring the fulfilment of the prophets—the book to be revealed. A voice of the Lord in the wilderness of Fayette, Seneca county, declaring the three witnesses to bear record of the book! The voice of Michael on the banks of the Susquehanna, detecting the devil when he appeared as an angel of light! The voice of Peter, James, and John in the wilderness between Harmony, Susquehanna county, and Colesville, Broome county, on the Susquehanna river, declaring themselves as possessing the keys of the kingdom, and of the dispensation of the fulness of times!

This verse is all about angels and spirits: Moroni, Satan, and Peter, James, and John.

DC 129 is all about detecting spirits.

I believe there’s a connection…

Satan appeared and tried to deceive/deceived Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. Michael/Adam appeared, and showed them how to detect an evil spirit, either in the process of detecting the devil, or afterward. Then, Peter, James, and John appeared and ministered to them. Whether Michael or Peter and his group did the actual teaching of DC 129, I don’t know, but I’d guess that Michael taught them, then they were able to use it and confirm Peter, James, and John.
